Moss, nature's bathmat
"The mat contains a total of 70 pieces of ball, island and forest moss. It feels soft underfoot and does not smell when it gets damp. "

Is this like the apartment in Stranger in a Strange Land that had living grass as a kind of luxury carpet?

That's insanely cool, I'd buy one straight away if it wasn't for the fact that it'd creep my female flatmate out. Actually that might be an added incentive...

But wouldn't it die if you went on vacation?

It looks like it could be easily made from two layers of interlocking foam mats. Cut off the interlocking bits, cut out holes in the top mat, glue it to the bottom mat (somehow) to make a bunch of little flower pots. Fill with different kinds of moss (easy for me to say out here in Seattle) and throw it in front of your tub. I wouldn't worry about it dying on vacation because moss is really resilient. It always comes back in my yard after a dry summer.
The thing that would concern me is moisture under the mat and bugs in the moss. Other than that it sounds like a wining project/product.

.... Wait, what? And why?
Fungus on your feet is bad, right?

@genericvox: Moss != fungus
Still, I prefer the machine washable bath mat.

Ok, I get that and like it, moss in the woods or on the rocks feels good under bare feet.
my question is what about the "stuff" (falling hair, yada yada) that would get in it? That could end up being gross.
just sayin'...

In Colombia we have a tradition of making a small model of the nativity. In Cali, most took the moss from the nearby mountain range to take the place of grass and hills.
This was over 15 years ago, since they outlawed the practice. It was ruing the ecosystem, moss being one of the most important elements of a humid forest.
So, I wonder where are they yanking out this stuff. I sure hope it's produced in tanks...
