I think they dropped it around 1999 or 2000. My late-1999 iMac had a rainbow Apple on it, but I don’t remember seeing another rainbow Apple after that.
The concept is indeed from the late 80′s (note floppy slot). The keyboard was a working prototype of a frameless keyboard. Very compact, and with mechanical keys.

Looks like an early 90′s concept piece, maybe late 80′s. I think the mouse is Mac SE era. When did Apple drop the rainbow Apple logo again?
My Apple II gs has a keyboard like that.
