Dell Mini 9 now just $250
![]()
The base model of Dell's well-liked and unusually compact Mini 9 is now just $250. This puts it on par with the cheapest netbooks, but with similar carnage on the spec-sheet: it has just 512MB of RAM, no Windows XP, and a paltry 4GB of storage. No discount exists for the swanky 3G models, which will still set you back $450 or more, though the Mini 12 gets a similar cut.
Those wanting to spend little, but who want something prettier than an Eee 901 or Aspire One, now have no excuses. The deal ends on the 12th.

I have to say, I picked up a refurbished Dell Mini 9 for about 180 a few weeks ago (threw in 2GB RAM, and an 8GB SSD is plenty for a netbook) – and they are waaaaay more solid than Asus' netbook offerings, the build quality is super nice.
Pft, who needs windows on a netbook? that's like a supercharger in a geo metro.
TheAwesomeRobot, wouldn't windows on a netbook be more like filling the trunk of the Geo Metro with lead?
So when is *not* having Windows XP a bad thing?
How's the battery life?
Battery life is OK.
OSX compatibility is super. Photographers report that the LCD display on the Mini 9 is excellent, and easy to calibrate.
For Dell, 250$ = 454€...

Have the mini 9 w/ xp. It runs fine once you take out the trash (ie crapware) and defrag the hd. Oh I stuck a 2gig ddr2 in as well.
I run Quickbooks, itunes (w/ content on a 360gig xternal hd), MSworks, and more, with NO problems and speed well within the realm of acceptability.
Also will swap the ssd for the runcore 32gig version which has shown through testing to improve speed to levels comparable with laptops in the $500 - $700 range.
Seriously, there is a misconception that these are not capable laptops, but the truth is, if you are willing to spring for the upgrades and arent afraid of tinkering around under the hood, it makes for an ULTRA portable, surprisingly capable little pc.
No online gaming, no CAD, no video editing, but if you are into that, why are you looking at this?
Anyway, luv mine.
