Morning tech deals highlights

Watch this ad for the GPS unit I think I’m going to buy and try not to imagine that this guy is masturbating the entire time.

Home Theater System – This perfectly nice Onkyo 7.1 home entertainment system with speakers and a 3-to-1 HDMI switching is $350, shipped. Be aware, though, that it may not handle lossless 7.1 output over HDMI, but the reviews imply it sounds great. [Dealoco]

HDTV – The Panasonic 103-inch 1080p widescreen plasma HDTV is only $70,175 shipped, but a coupon code knocks off $3,500. However, attentive bargain hunters will discover that buying 19 units will give them the 20th unit for free. Act now! (Oh, also: It’s an open box model, but what do you expect for that bargain price?) [Dealnews]

Headphone Cable Winder – DealsClick.com will sell you a three-pack of Belkin TuneTie cord management fobs for $3, shipped. [Dealnews]

Backpacks – Several SwissGear backpacks are on sale starting around $30. Very decent brand from the one I’ve used. [Dealnews]

GPS Unit (I Think I’m Going to Buy) – Pioneer 5.8-inch portable GPS system with iPod and iPhone control, 800×480 LCD, SD card slot, backup camera support, Bluetooth, and voice control, for $200, shipped. I needed to buy a GPS unit for an upcoming trip (and then installation in the 2002) and this looks like a hell of a model, even if everyone suggests going only with TomTom or Garmin. And considering it was $600 less than a year ago I’m not sure I can resist. [Dealnews]

Or Maybe This GPS Unit – Then again, Amazon is now selling the Garmin nuvi 760 for just $240, which considering I’d have to buy a second cable to get the iPod to work with the Pioneer that is $40, makes both units the exact same price.

Help! Am I going to hate the Pioneer, even though it is larger and whiz-bangier? Update: I bought the Pioneer. I could not resist the shiny.

D00d, I just bought 20 of those Panasonics, thanks for the hookup.

More seriously, I ordered the Nuvi 760 LAST NIGHT. Syncronicity! I have no idea on the Pioneer versus Garmin choice. I just know that I wanted navigation only and have used a Garmin to great success in the past. The Pioneer is pretty.

If it helps, the Pioneer does have good reviews on Amazon. 4.5 stars is an excellent rating for any electronics.

I have the Onkyo system sitting in my Amazon cart, and I’m debating pulling the trigger. Looks like it would be a great cheap addition to my TV and Popcorn Hour box. Home audio or tools? If I buy this I could move my bookshelf stereo system and Squeezebox out into the garage, thus using my tools more and getting more value out of the existing ones. Hmm… now I think I’ve gone and convinced myself.

Who can resist headphone cable winders?

When my wife points out that we could actually use ‘em, I have to order 2 sets. :|

I bought an older model of the Onkyo system, and they are really nice. If you’re going to buy a HTIB, Onkyo is the way to go.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but after you set it up, go watch some NASCAR with the sound cranked, it’s just silly cool sounding.
