Pink Tentacle collates snippets about the Sanyo Ultrasonic Bath, an egg-shaped prototype appliance shown at the 1970 World Expo in Osaka, in which a bather sits inside and is cleaned, massaged, and dried in an “automated 15-minute process.” Consider me fully willing to place this in my bathroom should Sanyo ever decide to produce this wet Orkian womb.

HUMOR!
ar ar
Sanyo must have had a team of horny japanese designers who saw Barbarella one time too many.
This looks unnervingly like the people tanks in the Matrix. Providing that, at some point, Sony wants to/wanted to use our BTUs to power their electronics!
Sorry. *ahem* SANYO wants to use our BTUs to power electronics.
Is it bad that with a quick read-through, I saw something scary and automatically thought it was Sony?
Also, *proving not providing. Jeezis, I need another cup of coffee. *sulks*
Hot.
I have some books of pics of the Expo, wild stuff all round. Was an amazingly hopeful and idealistic time in Japan, the occupation was over and this was to be Japan’s debut on the world stage.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that most future-products from the 60′s and 70′s only came in white or chrome and were always bubble shaped? Oh, how I’d love to live in a shiny, glistening, bubbly world of white and chrome!
The thing looks like it was designed by Aperture Science.
(GLaDOS voice): I have noticed you are sweeeeattty. Before the next test, there will be opertunnnnity for you to use an Aperture Science Ultrasonic Bath Module.
(Next level): I am sorrry. The Aperture Science Ultrasonic Bath Module is currently down for repairs.
I remember seeing this on TV during coverage of Expo 70. I was mortally offended that my father didn’t offer to take me to Japan since we had gone to New York in 64 and Montreal in 67.
they never told you of the fate of the last to use it on any given day?
