.44 caliber revolver is the world's most powerful NERF gun

"The Most Powerful Nerf Gun" is not a designation that garners much fear amongst the six-shooter set, but loading a dart into a .44 caliber revolver and then firing it into a willing demonstrator's junk at 1,500 feet per second to the elicitation of his immediate crumplement is enough to give even the most steel-nerved NERF gunslinger the shakes. Especially when it is predicated by comments like, "I filled it with metal" and "Molly's ready to call 9/11 if shit gets real."

On the one hand I'm glad he wasn't rendered sterile for life. On the other hand that would have made a great Darwin award entry!

She's not getting ready to call "9/11" she's getting ready to call 911. One is a date, one is a phone number.

@ #7: Sadly, I think this video is just the beginning of injuries/deaths from people trying to copy this incredibly stupid stunt...

Folks have been using primer-only cartridges to shoot plugs of wax for decades, as a relatively safe (well, safer) indoor target-plinking load. Foam is probably no worse, though probably no better.

If it's a full load of powder, they're really trying for Darwin Award status.

Of course if you wave a gun around in public, no matter what it's loaded or not loaded with, you'd better expect to have your arse shot off before you can explain...

What ever happened to rule #1 of guns: don't ever point a gun at something you don't intend to kill.

This video is sheer utter reckless stupidity, and BBG shouldn't be encouraging this kind of behavior.

I agree with ZAN. Rule #1 is never point a gun at anything you don't intend to kill. Rule #2 is that guns are not toys.

Watching the video, they're pouring the powder from the palm of their hand straight into a funnel, into the gun. There is no measuring going on, so they've got no idea how powerful this shot is going to be.

If I ever see these guys at a range, I'm leaving. Immediately.

@13 - Depends on whose rules you use. The NRA has 3 rules, Cooper has 4. It's either -
1. always keep it pointed in a safe direction
2. always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
3. always keep it unloaded until ready to use

OR

1. guns are always loaded (or else should be treated as such)
2. never let the muzzle point at something you don't intend to destroy
3. keep finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target
4. be sure of your target and what lies beyond it

So we've violated only 2 rules out of the above 7, or one from each. I guess that's good?

Anyway, I call BS. The explosion ruptured the middle of the dart, making it impossible to fly in a straight line from the muzzle (unless it immediately started tumbling end over end). Everything about this screams set up, right down to the instantaneous crotch-grab-fall-down and the "(scene change) look blood!"

Also - this is a GADGET blog. What, no discussion on the camera used to record this stunt? I feel like it has to be a jailbroken iphone.

oh, and also - I'd like to see this done in a S&W 500 with a handloaded blank cartridge. The nerf dart would fit into the barrel a little further than an inch and if you had a very light charge I'm sure you could actually get it to fire properly (i.e. fly out of the barrel and in a relatively straight line)

I'm with Zan on this one. Pointing a firearm at someone, even if you think it's not loaded, is pretty stupid. Deliberately firing a gun with both black powder and something in the barrel is an invitation to serious & potentially life threatening injury.

It may seem silly to say this about a guy whose nuts are bleeding from impact, but he was actually lucky.

Client: "Does it count as a 'crime of violence' for sentencing purposes if the gun that killed him only shot a nerf dart?"
Attorney: "Yes"

This has been another episode of simple answers to simple questions.

you know, the wad from a blank at close range will punch a hole in you.

@Krylon;

I'm pretty sure they said that the wadding hit him in the crotch, not the dart itself. As you say, it looks too ripped up to have flown very far at all.

Brandon Lee was killed by a gun that had nothing but blanks or dummy loads in it.

Friday October 12th, 1984
Jon-Erik Hexum died on the set of the CBS television series "COVER UP".

The show was being filmed at the Twentieth Century Fox studios lot in Century City, when he 'accidentally' shot himself. The character he was playing was a weapons expert whose cover was that of a fashion show photographer.

During a scene where he is lying in bed, in between takes, he was playing around with a .44 Magnum revolver that was on-set for use as a blank-firing weapon. Shortly after 5:15 p.m. he put the pistol (according to witnesses, it was loaded with three empty cartridges and two blanks) up to his right temple. As he pulled the trigger he smiled, and supposedly said, "Let's see if I got myself with this one." He was apparently unaware that at close range, a blank can cause great damage. The explosion drove a quarter-sized piece of his skull far into his brain. The paper wadding of the straight-walled blank cartridge went straight into his temple and forced a bone chip to lodge in his brain.

A witness' account stated: "John smiled and pulled the trigger. There was a loud bang and a bright flash, then black smoke. Jon screamed in agony, and then looked kind of amazed as he slumped back onto the bed with blood streaming from a severe head wound. It was horrible." Another witness said, "One of the assistants rushed over to Jon with a towel and wrapped it around his head, trying to stop the blood."

Wax loads have also been cited as the cause of death for some magicians using them in guns for the bullet catch

a good rule is to punch anyone in the mouth who hands you a gun and says: "It's OK, it's unloaded."

absolutely retarded, but they look like the type. first of all, the muzzle velocity of a max charge in a brass framed black powder revolver is around 1050fps, not 1500. that's a technical error. even if it were possible to get that kind of velocity out of a brass-framed revolver safely, the nerf dart would never be able to create enough pressure to obtain it, not without using a hydraulic press to get all the air out of it and compressing it to a solid mass. maybe 600fps. but even then i doubt it. douche bags look like they're from fontana or lancaster. they probably failed their FFL and had to settle for a mail-order muzzle loader. losers.
