Paul Gardner-Stephen made a shoe-phone, last seen pressed against Don Adams’ mug in Get Smart. Because spy gear is best hardened by transparency, Gardner-Stephen made this Instructable showing how he did it. Spoiler alert: You put a phone in a shoe. [via MAKE:]

Nick at Nite offered a Get Smart shoe phone in the early ’90s. It was a cheap touch-tone phone in a cheap dress shoe, with the buttons on the bottom of the sole. Of course, you had to plug it into a jack.
Now, this is all well and good, but I’d love to see a more authentic version with rotary dial and flip-down mouthpiece, like the original prop.
Wow. In other news, you can embed Instructables?! Who knew?
IIRC, also used more recently by Steve Carell in the 2008 movie version of Get Smart. So no, it was not last seen against Don Adams’ mug.
I’ve always enjoyed referring to my cel phone as my “shoe phone”. Thanks for showing us the old “phone-hidden-in-a-shoe” trick, eh?
