Toy Fair Tetris: Invasion of the Tetromino Games

The cubic blocks found in classic toys and games like Tetris or Soma align well with one theme at this year’s Fair: simplicity. We spotted a bunch of items that sported its characteristic tumbling walls: from Bumpity Blocks for the kindergarten to complex strategy games like Jakbo, there’s something for everyone.

  1. Brettspiel says:

Blokus is an excellent game that, while it uses -ominoes, does not really play anything like Tetris. Each player plays one color of -ominoes (includes all 21 -omino combinations from 1 block to 5 blocks), your pieces must be placed so that they touch only the corners of your previously placed pieces, but other players can place adjacent to your pieces. There is a lot of wrangling for position, etc. Highly recommended. There is also a “travel” version that uses a smaller board and is designed specifically for 2 players.
