OLED-Info spotted an Amazon page (already taken down!) for a new Samsung camera. It’s evidently a 5x optical zoom model with 12 megapixels, but look closely … analog dials, oh my!
Update: Samsung reports that the price displayed by Amazon was incorrect. The official announcement will come on Monday.
Samsung to launch a new 12MP camera, the TL320, with a 3″ AMOLED? [OLED-info]

Isn’t this old school? As in, like, last year?
I have a fuzzy recollection of reading something about this last year (maybe on DPreview?). I believe the analog dials track the battery level and number of shots…
Analog is the new digital.
The analog dials reminded me of a high end Nikon point-and-shoot from the 90s:

Nikon made two models: one with a 28mm lens and one with a 35mm lens, both with titanium bodies. I was working in a camera shop around the time when these were available. It was the sort of thing you wanted, but not for that sort of price.
For what the reviewer of the above link paid (not that it was a bad deal) I personally would have gone after an old Nikon rangefinder. Whatever – I haven’t shot film in years.
The Samsung looks nice, though I wonder if the dials will impart any useful information.
Saw this on engadget this morning, apparently the dials show remaining battery life and storage capacity.
Add some brass pipes and steam pressure gauges and you’d be set!
Will it be able to take a picture of Xeni and Violet Blue, together again, playing handmade ukuleles, singing a song about the natural causes of climate change?
I’ll take two!
As much as I love the convenience and creative control I get with a DSLR, I really miss the one knob, one function (mostly) operation of an old 35 mm SLR camera.
Epson of all companies had a digital rangefinder (like Leica’s M8) called the R–D1, which used analog dials reminiscent of a fuel gauge. And they even redid the old ASA–DIN converter scale that used to be on the backs of cameras to show focal length conversion. Here’s a review with sample photos:

any manual exposure modes or RAW files??
