Actually that’s either Windows 3.0 or 3.1, not 95
Errr, 3.1, maybe 3.11 – but that aint 95!
That appears to be (and TFA also states) Win 3.1, not 95. Ah, those were the days… *cough*
Solitaire fans do what they gotta do.
Not Windows 95. But still a bit exciting.
I want to see Paintbrush in action!
My excitement got the better of me. I shall leave the mistake up for posterity. And inspiration.
Those are some pretty graphics, right there.
@4 – RTFA – It’s one of the things he tried!
You know, in many ways I rather run 3.11 on a handheld than some of the recent flavors of actual Windows Mobile.
Looks like the OS doesnt understand the resolution of the screen so the pixels are all distorted or something strange?
I just love how we’re to the point where 3.1 (font problems aside there) looks like some kind of ultra minimalist phone OS.
@ #10
Why shouldn’t it?
The 3.x series was designed for computer displays with roughly the same resolution as current smartphones. Also, it was designed to run on less powerful hardware than I currently carry around in my pocket. Add to that it was more functional than most of the current mobile OS offerings.
The industry could do a lot worse than to take their cues from the 3.x line of windows. A direct port would not be very useful, but much of the interface and options would be a step up over current designs.
woah, the strikethrough on this thread title is causing everything on the “Recent Comments” section on the right side of the pade to display a strike-through text.
It’s like all of bb gadgets has been redacted or something.
WEIRD. investigating
Figured it. It’s a flaw in the thing we’re using to style the sidebar — it strips HTML in a weird way.
Sound Recorder! Media Player (before DRM)! I missed you guys!
Notepad before… um, before. Uhh…
F-YEAH NOTEPAD!
At the risk of being a ghastly curmugeon, I’m going to note that Win3.1 is running in DOSBox, where it has run happily for quite some time now, rather than on the n95, which is not x86, and won’t be happening ever.
It is impressive that our phones are now powerful enough to run things in x86 VMs without unusable overhead; but Win3.1 in DOSBox is old, old news.
You you ghastly curmudgeon.
It is truly a glorious time to be alive.
I miss the truly awesome features of Win3.1 — Calendar, Macro Recorder, File Manager — why every version of Windoze since has downgraded or eliminated these core functions is beyond me!
Why break the simple stuff that works, UNLESS you have a revenue-generating replacement? I don’t get it at all!
…Isn’t a Symbian one of those twelve-speed vibrating dildos mounted in a saddle of some sort?
Is the ghastly curmudgeon our beloved Stephen Fry?
before we know it, we’ll be virtualizing CURRENT OSs on OLD phones!
right?
