Resident…Evil…5 – In stores only, Toys ‘R’ Us is selling RE5 for $60 with a free $20 gift card. I can’t let myself buy it, because I don’t want to have to replace my television when I throw the controller through the screen. [Slickdeals]

National Geographic – 1-year subscription to NatGeo mag for $12. That’s like a buck a boob. [Slickdeals]

Projection Screen – Elite Screens 97 x 49 inch 16:9 projection screen for $102, shipped. [Dealoco]

MP3 Player – The Philips 1GB MP3 player with 2-line LCD display, voice record, and buttons, is available refurbished for just $13. [Dealnews]

Sound Bar – Philips AmbiSound sound bar with built-in 1080p-upscaling DVD player for $250, shipped. I’ve not used this particular model, but I suspect it’s a nice starter kit. (I’m really considering a sound bar for the house, but for now I’m just pulling down the rear speakers and putting them behind the couch on the floor. And that’s really not a huge deal, actually.) [Dealnews]

Irish Dirt – I hate St. Patrick’s Day and the Irish as much as any proper faux Scotch-American, but I actually think it’s sort of awesome that you can buy Real Irish Dirt with shamrock seeds in it for $5. [DeepDiscount]

Shortwave! – Today’s Woot is the Grundig G4 World Recorder FM/AM/Shortwave Portable Radio with MP3 and SD Player for $105, shipped. About $45 off most places.

In regards to the Scots. Bunch of pansies. Couldn’t even beat those limp wristed Englishmen.

Asfar as Resident Evil 5 is concerned, I haven’t paid any attention to the previews/reviewws/anything, so when I ask (admittedly teenage) people that have played it, they say “Oh it’s so cool! It’s a lot like RE4, except you kill black people.”

This has happened no less than 5 times. I am deeply concerned.

MP3 with SD card slot is very cool; I’m a fan of minimizing the total amount of hardware you have to carry with you through life.

But I also question whether the Grundig is as sensitive for the primary task of shortwave radio listening as a Degen DE1103 / Kaito KA1103. (~$50 on eBay, from China)

The Grundig brand name isn’t really worth what it was 20 years ago.

On the other hand, if anyone knows of a solid and modestly priced Digital Radio Mondiale portable shortwave radio with SDHC card slot for recording and playback, please post a comment.

    The SCots hate the Irish?

Well as someone who is both, and I mean that one parent from each country, was born in one raised in the other and hold both passports, that is nonsense.

    The Scots ARE the Irish.

That is where the Scots came from, across the water to found the kingdom of Dalriada.

The indigenous people of Scotland were the Picts, a people about whom so little is known that even the name “Pict” is only what the Romans called them because they were painted with wode (same root pict picture etc).

Just thought you’d like to know.

As for the English being pansies, I really would dial down your fantasy notions of how macho the US is, the English have been taking countries apart from before your country even existed.

A long and bloody history of attaining a little elbow room in the world, and all of it done hand to hand.

Definitely not as funny as when they didn’t close the tiny, tiny footnote code and the whole rest of the site was lilliputian.

Well, we frequently did, but tended to fight ourselves more than we fought the English, much like the Irish.

And I don’t know how you can call the English limp-wristed, considering that until after WWI they were definitely some of the most blood-thirsty, conniving bastards on Earth. Just ask the Welsh, Irish, Scots, Boers, Indians (“feather and dot”), French, Spanish, Dutch, Russians, Turks, Arabs, Persians, Malaysians, Zulu, Ashanti… well, you get the picture.

Don’t ask Mel Gibson, though, because he will not shut up about it.

@5: Don’t forget the Romans! Britain may have been a province of the empire for a while, but hoo boy, they definitely made it difficult.

“It’s shite being Scottish! We’re the lowest of the low, the scum of the fucking earth, the most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some people hate the English, I don’t. They’re just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers. We can’t even find a decent culture to be colonized by. We are ruled by effete arseholes. It’s a shite state of affairs to be in, Tommy! And all the fresh air in the world won’t make any fucking difference!”
