SplitFish FragFX V2 is the controller bundled with a PlayStation 3 if it were 1988

Unlike Microsoft's silly but sort of understandable proscription against mice on home consoles, Sony doesn't mind letting gamers use a mouse on their lap. Swiss peripherals maker SplitFish has released a new model of their FragFX mouse, the V2, with offers "significant improvements", but is presented here primarily because it looks odd. It is eighty of your dollars.

The drama with the FragFX: Because it simulates the movement of the joystick to the PS3, there's a noticeable lag unless you know how to tune both the controller and the game settings. The best game to use it for is CoD4, as many have reported that you only need to mess with the sensitivity scroll on the nun-chuck-like left controller until you get the speed you need. For KillZone 2, there's a controller lag that's built into the game, basically it translates to a large deadzone for the FragFX mouse, you have to move it quite a bit before the reticule will move on screen. What people have found that might work is maxing out the sensitivity for the game settings, and then adjusting the controller's sensitivity until you're satisfied.

There's also a whole war between DS3 users against FragFX people, saying it's unfair. For me, I'm used to playing FPS on the computer, and since KillZone 2 won't be making that jump, I'd rather buy this to play with it. It's not an issue of fairness, it's a matter of what you're comfortable with. I have better movements in my arm and wrist than my thumb, but it might be the reverse for someone else.

The V2 has been delayed several times, but the V1 is now going for as low as $50 on Amazon and a few places.

It is eighty of your puny human dollars, earthling. I will never get used to your insistence on these concepts of "value" and "price". Now, tell me, what is this "wuv"?

That could be pretty great for making levels in Little Big Planet. I wonder if you can assign macros to the nun-chuck buttons?

Ive been checking this thing out for a few months, but didnt buy. I just can't get the hang of the Dualshock since ive spent 10 years using the ol' mouse and keyboard!

So.. does this actually work?

wow... a ripoff of both the computer and the wii!

When I was younger, I couldn't play FPS. With mouselook on the computer, I alternated between looking straight down or straight up. Trying Halo, I could aim or move, but not both.

Then I got a Wii and a fun little game called Elebits. Three-quarters of the way through that, I had a revelation: "HEY waitaminute, this is an FPS!"

So now I am successfully trained, and can beat everyone I know on Wii Quake! Next step: me on the Wii, them on their best-interface... bring it on!

i generally hate using controllers, which is why i bought a wii over a PS3 because the wii controller is almost a mouse. i may now have to reconsider.

@rAMPANTiDIOCY: Socom, Bioshock, Deadspace, the Orange Box, etc. The FragFX works with them all, as reported by various forums (which I'm too lazy to dig out again), but it works best with COD4. Just because you love it doesn't mean other people do.

@monstrinho_do_biscoito: I've played Metroid Prime 3, and as much as I like the controls, after hours of gaming my arm gets really tired. I do love the Wii and MP3, so it's gotten to the point where I have to get comfortable, put a couple of pillows on my lap to rest my aiming arm, so that I'm just aiming with the wrist. It works great for hours, but my wrist took horrible stress and I had to stop playing it just before the last world or my job would pay the consequence (I'm a coder, so lots of typing). I'll probably go back and beat it soon though.

As for your opinion of controllers, it's a valid one, but I'd have to wonder: have you played video games before the Wii? Because if you've put up with controllers since way back when, I can't see why you wouldn't get a PS3 or a 360. Modern controllers are greatly improved in terms of comfort (the original xbox controller notwithstanding).

FragFX = cheat

I'm sorry, I can't let the last comment in this post to go to some nameless troll.

It's a cheat only if the player also hacks the game so his FragFX movements are faster than other people's controllers. In actuality, this is impossible because the FragFX maps the mouse movement into the analog joystick's input. Your argument is basically that moving your arm is better than moving your thumb, which I would argue is different for each person. The best joystick user can still kill the best mouse user any day. It's called practice and skill.

FragFX = cheat

I agree with what youve post nnguyen, ("the FragFX maps the mouse movement into the analog joystick's input") ive tried it, but its way better when you need to make accurate shots, shots that are too difficult to make with the dualshock, and im quite good with it.

imo sony should come up with something like this controller and bundle it with some fps game.

"The best joystick user can still kill the best mouse user any day" (come on man, thats c..p) you can never compare a joystick with a 2000 dpi mouse.

"Your argument is basically that moving your arm is better than moving your thumb" yeah, thats what im saying, its physics.

frag fx is a thing of fairness people who would never beat me with a controller in mgo are no auto aiming headshots. ITS BULLSHlT why cant people just play with what sony gave them instead of resorting to a laggy cheat tool.

If you think the Fragfx v2 is cheating you've got 2 be kidding! everyone has access to one so if you keep getting raped because you don't have one then just go and get one for yourself and enjoy a more pleasurable game play experience.
