Analyst: Carriers turned nose up at Dellphone

The reason there is no Dell phone is because when Dell made it, the carriers did not like it. Who is the customer again? [Barrons]

"Who is the customer again?"

In the US cellphone model, the carriers *are* the customer of the handset makers. That's how each network has their exclusive hardware. If you want an iPhone, you have to go to AT&T. The G1? Go to T-Mo. The LG Dare? That's Verizon for you.

That's the way it is. Dell should have had a carrier lined up before they went too far with the development if the Barrons article is true.
