The Nyko Metal Pedal, an aftermarket upgrade for your Rock Band or Guitar Hero drums with metal plating and “hard rock design”, is now hitting stores for $20.
I’ve finally upgraded fully to Rock Band 2 gear, but I’m more concerned with my drums sliding all around my hardwood floors than I am breaking the kick pedal. I think I need to add some rubber—and get a proper drum throne.

I’ve played the drums for a long time, and I must say, the mechanics and the timing of Rock Band/GH drums *really* throw me- it seems as though you’ve always got to play early. I hear this a lot, but it seems in my case, musical ability really is a detractor to these sorts of games. I’m the same way with the guitar.
The one area it seems to really help is singing, because I tend to remember the tiny pitch variations from the original songs, and I’m always scoring something like 99% on ultrahard.
Heh, no, you need to add a ratty carpet scrap with a 2×4 affixed to the leading edge of it. I wonder if I could tart some carpet remnants up with a Rock Band logo & make a gazillion bucks?
Is there actually new Rock Band drums/guitar equipment you can buy to go with Rock Band 2? Is it worth it?
@1 – Sounds like some calibration was needed. It’s a bit of voodoo to get the delays set right.
I’m still on my original RB1 kit, and I can’t stress enough how much The Omega Pedal and RocPadz improved my experience.
The Omega Pedal is a real Pearl pedal that has been modded for use with either RB drum kit. I take it to every RB party I go to, and it’s as natural-feeling as I can imagine anything could be.

My RocPadz still look as new as the day I got them, although the adhesive is beginning to degrade around the edges. The part that sticks to the original drum heads is still fine, but the part where the foam is attached to the adhesiveness is what is degrading. Some super-glue seemed to work on that though.

Anyway, just sharing my 2 favorite ‘mods’ w/ the community.
Enjoy!
i’m using a scrap of carpet without the 2×4. carpet’s big enough for my chair to sit on, also.
@#1 you can calibrate the timing of the game. its one of the menu options. some projectors and TV’s introduce /lots/ of lag, and it can compensate quite a bit in either direction.
Does it matter whether or not you play rockband on carpet or hardwood floor. I ask because I had one given to me by someone and they said the pedal worked when they played on their hardwood floor and when I brought it home the pedal wouldn’t work but the drums did. Any reason why that would happen? They then took it back and the pedal worked. All the troubleshooting techniques were completed as well.
