a hyoutan is no more a sort of cucumber than a pumpkin is a sort of cucumber
Cucumber.
These would go nicely with my bottle of Kalahari Thirstland Liquor (shaped like what is supposedly called “calabashes”, a sort of bulbous herb). They look almost the same.
Needless to say, while the liquor bottle looks (and tastes! – the liquor, not the bottle) great, these speakers tend to appear rather ridiculous.
@1 “a hyoutan is no more a sort of cucumber than a pumpkin is a sort of cucumber”
Cucumbers, hyoutans, and pumpkins are all in the same family.
@3 Hyoutan is just another name for a calabash.

Oh, snap!

Pumpkins and cucumbers are annual vines. I thought calabashes grew on trees, as unlikely as that sounds. They do look like gourds.
Because I spend all day arguing about speakers and vegetables make a nice change of topic.
Good night Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are!

@agies oh, well good to know. NEver heard of both as of yesterday, though
I highly recommend the liquor to anyone who might be interested. High octane for a liquor (35%). I’ve had my bottle for about 4 years (so hard to get, I seldomly dare take a drink), and I think the alcohol level actually rose to around 40% by now… Delicious stuff!
@#10 Garr
40% alcohol would make it around 80 proof, about as strong as your average bottle of rum. Does it taste good mixed with coke?
bottle gourd speaker, very wonderful ,this is really the most lovely speaker that I have ever seen!
