Uprades!

Picture 1.pngIt's upgrade time, mutants, which means that the system won't be publishing new comments for at least a few hours. Note that these are unsexy upgrades: if nothing outwardly changes, that means it worked!

In the meantime, here's an embedded comment thread from Disqus at the front page.

Anonymously now, not previewed

Wat?

Don't get the recaptcha on the first anonymous comment - you have to 'preview' it first. Is that by design?

Should've been titled Upgrayedd, for a double dose of pimping.

Bug reports here?

The SIGN IN button is hinky. Wasn't clickable as a graphic; had to refresh Firefox a couple times until SIGN IN was just a text link, then I could click it and log on.

Also, the spamblocker told me to type the two words but showed three.

Ahem. Where, pray tell, is the News Faucet?

I had the same problem signing in - Firefox took a couple refreshes to show it. Before it appeared, it was a 1/4" square yellow box.

I like the "uprades" title... Now that's progress.

FYI, the sign in doesn't show on BB proper. I could get to it from the preview page of the comments of one of the threads, but then it gave me an access-denied-to-the-server message.

ah... apparently, being logged in here isn't translating back to the BB proper, so no comments for me there, either logged in or anonymously.

Maybe the upgrade can include a spellcheck or lazy editor fix? Just a thought...

All of these comments remind me of the morning-after emails I get from my boss after a major system upgrade. I've been in IT for 15 years but still find major changes relatively stressful because I want them to go really well. Seems like things are mostly working, Rob, I hope your weekend wasn't too crazy!

Clearing cookies and cache should fix log-in issues.

I know they're working on it because someone has been in the sub-basement banging on the pipes for most of yesterday afternoon.

Is that why the faucet is missing? Was it clogged?

Upraded yet?

I'm going to cross reference my problem with posting here just in case.

Obviously, I don't have a problem posting, so it's no skin off of my teeth. And just to note, I did clear the BB cookie.

I'm posting a weird non-error error here, as this seems to be the best place to list it.

I signed in on BoingBoing, and previewed a comment. At this point it listed me as an ANONYMOUS poster and made me do the recaptcha. When the comment posted, it was correctly listed as BCJ, not ANONYMOUS. I also had to relog in on BBG when I switched over (though all it required in both cases was pressing "sign in." I didn't need to give my username and password). I am one of those rebels who has yet to clear his cookies, so I am ready to chock it up to being a bad user.

Overall, the site seems to be running fine. So good work Rob (as usual).

3 More things:

1 is there a support@boingboing I should send this kind of message too instead of posting in this thread?

2 When I try and upload a profile pic, I get this error:

Error writing upload to '/var/www/boing-cgi/mt/mt-static/support/uploads/pic.jpg': Opening local file '/var/www/boing-cgi/mt/mt-static/support/uploads/pic.jpg' failed: No such file or directory

3 In the user profile
a) "website" and "website url" are both fields, what is the difference?

b) I had never really looked at the profile section before, maybe this has alway been there, but what are these fields for:
profile_pending_password
passwordverificationcode
password_reset_code
email_verification_code

Just a test. Cleared my cookies. My 9-year-old thinks that sounds like barf.
