Video: Inside EHX’s new guitar pedals

EHX has reissued a couple of old pedal designs from the late ’60s, the Screaming Bird (for treble) and the Mole (for bass). John Pazzani, one of the engineers, shows the guts and a quick scope reading.

If you want to learn more about guitar pedals than you ever thought existed, watch the movie Fuzz.

[disclaimer: I know the guys who made the movie.]

    “Fuzz” is great stuff.

Here’s the clip from “Fuzz” of EHX’s Mike Matthews:

It would be good to have some sound samples of an actual guitar going through these pedals as he talks about numbers and things.

As a guitarist and wannabe electronics hobbyist, I’ve played around a little bit with modding and building effect pedals, but I’ve gotten frustrated with the disconnect there seems to be between people who understand how all the electronic bits work and people who ever actually get around to plugging their guitars in and playing.

Seems kind of limited for an eq, especially since there are already several good parametric eq stompboxes out there already. I’m not sure how a fixed eq has any advantage over say a seven band parametric eq. I guess it probably has a pretty unique eq curve. I’ve never understood tone chasers, but I like this guy, his videos, and EHX in general.

That’s nice and all, but I wonder what they sound like?

  6. Brother Provisional says:

Sorry. In my previous post I was conflating parametric equalization with graphic equalization. I shouldn’t post before my first cup of coffee.

Hey all — this wasn’t meant to be a “demo” type video, but rather more of an informal introduction from inside Engineering — those sorts of demo videos will be coming soon…
