For seventy bucks, you can put a Gator Guard in your pond that is designed to keep aquatic birds away, even in states where alligators are not common, as birds are instinctually fearful of plastic heads. [via Toolmonger]

I’m trying to imagine a scenario where I would want a pond with no birds in it.
The University of Washington Drumheller Fountain features not one but two of these floating gator heads, but the gators are easily out-numbered by the various ducks that make the fountain their home. I have yet to see a bird roost on one of the gator heads, but it’s only a matter of time.

Man, I thought those plastic owls were bad.
The thing has the eyes of a Sleestak, and that’s good enough for me!
Scares off waterbirds and small animals? Bah! I want something that will keep my brother-in-law out of the pool!
it is a little horrible for the first sight!
Oh man, I just consulted my Sleestak bobblehead (the ultimate reference material on Sleestaks)

I was thinking of Enik, who has jeweled eyes.
Sorry everyone.
Sorry!
I wanna know how they knew the geese in the video were Canadian… Did they check their passports?
Oh yeah, that’ll work. I have seen ducks sitting on much more realistic fake alligator heads on the Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland — the boat captains make jokes about it.
DannysLand: I’m a Jungle Cruise Skipper (at WDW) and I came here just to say, essentially, the same thing.
Ducks aren’t scared. Save your money, folks.
