What HDMI Costs – 3-pack of 6-foot HDMI cables for $8, shipped. You can spray paint them gold if it makes you feel better. [Slickdeals]

Battery Charger – The La Crosse Technology BC-900 AlphaPower battery charger, the very same battery charger I use in my home, which, according to my expert assessment, does appear to charge batteries, is now selling for $40 at Amazon—the normal price, but they now toss in 4 AA and 4 AAA rechargeables. [Amazon]

Camera Bag – Crumpler 4 Million Dollar Home camera bag for $30 at REI. Shipping is extra, or pick-up in store. About $10-20 off. [Dealhack]

Sony Rolly – Sony has slashed the price of its weird but undeniably charming Rolly MP3 robot thing to $150 from $400, making it only $100 overpriced. [Dealnews]

Monitor – Dell S2309W 23-inch 1080p LCD monitor for $160, shipped. Five years ago I paid $800 for two 20-inch 4:3 monitors from Dell and considered myself the Duke of Bargains. [Dealnews]

(In my best Will Farrel "Elf" voice) What's an 'expect assessment'? I want one!

It's crazy how monitors and TVs are so cheap these days. I keep stopping myself from impulse purchasing a couple. Two years ago I would have spent two months researching each one to death.

I remember when I paid $1400 for a 26" sharp Aquos and thought I had found a great deal *SNIFF*.

I'm kinda over widescreen monitors. I've never sat in front of a computer monitor and thought, "I wish this wasn't so tall..."

I get it, they're for watchin' movies on. But I've had widescreens for about a year now, and I miss the vertical space.

TheRevengor, I agree. I have a widescreen laptop and frequently find myself wanting for more vertical space. I've started to use the full screen mode of Firefox a lot more often in order to gain some vertical real estate.

It's irritating. Now, a 30" widescreen with a good resolution like the Apple display might not cause me to have those feelings.

Browsing the web on these widescreen monitors turned 90 degrees, though, is joy. They're almost *too* long. Same problem, different orientation, like that time I couldn't get a tuggie at church camp from anyone in my cabin.

Joel, have you had much of a problem with the polarizing filters when turning them on their side? I have a couple non-widescreen LCDs at my desk and I tried using one rotated to portrait and ended up switching it back because the color was so inconsistent - due to the polarizing filter, I believe.
