Video: "The pizza box of the 21st century"

It's nice that when I order a delivery pizza I'll no longer have to ask for extra sanctimony.

Not as cool as the pizza box from Hell Pizza in NZ -- it folds up into a miniature coffin for pizza storage.

Very economic, putting a warm pizza in a refrigarator :D
Cool it down first before putting it in the refrigarator, saves a lot of energie.

I saw this on the Canadian Version of Dragon's Den a year or so ago, pitched to the head of Pizza Pizza.. who tried to low ball the guy then bailed on any investment.

Only problem is if the box is too greasy it cannot be recycled.

Sadly, most pizza boxes are NOT recyclable, and I suspect the one shown in the video is no exception. Due to pizza grease and left over cheese, sauce and all the other noms, the boxes can't go through the recycling process.

Also, being a common pizza eater, I see issues with the "plates." They're just a flat board, meaning food will likely slide or roll off them onto the pants/table/floor, and that's no fun. They also don't look very thick and sturdy, so I doubt they'd be able to hold more than a single tiny cheese slice. And by greasing up the bottom AND top of the pizza box now, it's actually become much less recyclable. At least with normal boxes, you can tear the top off (assuming the boxer did their job and didn't get cheese stuck to it) and recycle that, while throwing out the bottom (the recycle place will likely not bother to tear the box in half, so it's a good idea to do so yourself if the top is clean).

The better way to be economically friendly is to eat OUT of the box and use your hand/shirt as a napkin. Although come to think of it, this is likely why I often eat dinner alone with my cat.

(I like that "fattiest" is my captcha word for this comment. Fitting.)

I've been doing this for years, only I use a knife to cut the pizza box, that way I don't pay for perforation and "Green" cardboard that cannot be recycled due to grease anyway.

Ripping the box into "plates" was standard practice during my college years.

Pizza boxes ARE recyclable. If you compost them.

Your local waste disposal utility composts no? Why not!?!

Oops - was beaten by #1. How humiliating. Mods if you're reading this, please delete this post and the one before it!

I like the idea of the pre-perforated pizza box top that lets you make plates and storage box. Saves time/resources on dishes, napkins, paper plates, and allows you to multi purpose something that would be tossed away anyways. I do think the bottom should also have the option of being turned into plates, or individual boxes.

Not all things can be recycled. That is just how it is. Bothered by it? Dont use those products. In this case the box can be composted, and its paper, its not going to hurt much in a landfill.

I save my boxes and use them for disposable cutting boards. All my waste is then nice and boxed up and ready for the trash. They also can be repurposed as general mess matts. The cheese and grease? Not a big deal. Germs? Shut up, your immune system needs practice.

how about a patent free version of something similar? seems like the patent undermines their mission of sustainability and true environmental friendliness.

But will they turn up at your door in the hands of a friendly Deliverator..?

"1) make pizza at home

You obviously have no idea what the point of a pizza is.

This implies there are people who order a pizza and don't eat the whole thing there and then. How strange.

Leftover pizza?

You're obviously doing it wrong. ;)

#16: I was expecting to see a timer built into the lid next to a big picture of Uncle Enzo.

I was expecting something like the pizza box from Snow Crash.

Surely Pizza Hut is working on a way to baking an edible box right into the crust. I know that doesn't make a damn bit of sense but neither do 90% of their pizza inventions.

Wrong, #2. Cooling food as quickly as possible is best practice for sanitary storage. The longer the food is in the "danger zone" between cold-enough and hot-enough, the easier it is for bacteria to start growing in and contaminating it. Granted that pizza is not a high-risk food (potato salad sickens many people each year when left out and eaten from).

Here in Seattle we can now dispose of soiled paper in our yard waste. That includes paper plates, cups, paper towels, and of course, pizza boxes. Although since Zagi's Pizza in Ballard has closed we don't order out too much any more. I sure do miss that 21" pepperoni and sausage..... Sigh.

@ #22 They did, Pizza Hut pizza already tastes like cardboard

Um, yeah you COULD recycle the lid because its not greasy. Only now you cut it up and used it for plates, so its greasy and you have to throw it away too along with the bottom half of the box. How about use some real plates instead?

I guess its better than using paper plates and not recycling anything.
