    That’s weird, the RUR robots were biological.

    I think you’re right. The “robots” (androids?) in Karel Capek’s play were definitely biological. I think it was the first use of the word robot as well. Not sure where the pic came from, but would love to find out.

    It’s from the BBC’s 1938 TV production of RUR. It was transmitted live, and was never recorded, but it is THE FIRST piece of TV science fiction ever made. There are quite a lot of stills from it – Google image search for RUR BBC 1938 and you’ll find plenty.

    As for why they are actual metallic robots, I’m not sure!
