Dell’s 10.1″ Latitude 2100, intended for schoolkids, has a nice chunky, rugged look to it—and a selection of bright colors to pick from. Upgrades over the International Standard Netbook include an antimicrobial keyboard and ventless bottom to avoid spill damage.
Press Release [Dell]

I had a snake with a ventless bottom, but it exploded.
Not bad, but you can get a similarly rugged design from HP with a 32gig SSD. I just picked one up with a 2 year accidental damage replacement plan for $600.
…Someone at Dell is apparently about to be fired, because they’re doing their job right in designing a netbook that looks like it won’t break when you open the lid one too many times and/or fart next to it.
After following the link and finally finding a picture of the front of the thing, I think this requires le mot juste:
“giant bezel is giant”
mmmm. astroturf on a laptop
Monstrinho, I kept looking over the comments thinking, “hmm! I don’t see any astroturfing!” … then I glanced back at the picture. Ha!
The outer green part looks to be made of corrugated cardboard?!
Is anyone planning to make a netbook with an outdoor capable display like the OLPC any time soon? I really want something I can take to the park and write on, but the rubber keyboard and the overall fugly of the OLPC makes me very hesitant…
Hantarg will be promoting rugged netbooks in one month, we’re planning to sell online less than $399.00 with XP OS, spill-resistant keyboard, 1GB RAM, 160GB SATA HDD with shock mount anti-vibration protection, Magnesium Alloy for 3ft drop protection plus one year factory warranty. We’ll call this “Obama” model plus another model has less featured w/o spill-proof KB & shock mount HDD, we called “Mate” at $349.00 includes XP OS pre-installed. Thanks
