Cute charity alarm clocks made from old barn wood

IMG_0398.jpg

These super-cute alarm clocks were made from scraps of wood from a 200-year old barn in Switzerland. The body is designed and made by furniture designer Furni Creations and then painted by Don Pendleton, a skateboard artist. There are two different designs currently on auction at eBay–proceeds go youth skateboarding non-profit Elemental Awareness.

  1. Ambiguity says:

It would perhaps be better if the proceeds went to charities who work to preserve 200 year-old barns. Not that architectural heritage is worth preserving or anything…

  2. Emily says:

Yeah, I don’t really get why it’s important that it be made from 200 year old barn wood. It could have been made from basically any wood, since the focus is on the painting and design…

  3. HairySammoth says:

Depending on where you live, 200-year-old barns aren’t always considered uncommon enough to be heritage buildings. I couldn’t throw a piglet without hitting a 200-year-old barn where I grew up.

  4. strider_mt2k says:

What if it was an EVIL barn where no good things ever occurred and the rats ate the cats?

THEN you’d WANT it torn down AND you’d want a piece of it for your alarm clock!

See? You can imagine all KINDS of crazy crap when there’s zero real information! It’s fun!

  5. To clarify, the wood was re-cycled from a very tastefully done re-design of my friends barn, instead of throwing away otherwise unusable offcuts he was nice enough to bring us a few keepsakes when he last visited the workshop, that’s what we used to create these clocks, we’ve been skateboarding together for over a decade, so I thought making them into clocks that could be sold to benefit a “skateboard based” cause was very fitting.
