    That is so awesome.

  2. James says:

This thing seems to be all over the internet, yet I don’t seem to be able to find a definition anywhere for a “Shunter Mech”. What exactly is a ‘Shunter Mech’? Is it functional? is it supposed to be functional? Is it from a movie?
    Thanks

a million bucks worth of product destroyed because your loader didn’t hold the container level… who knows what kind of products sloshing around in there…

  4. technogeek says:

Link (or pointer, if non-Internet) to source, please? Seems polite to help folks see what else this artist has done… and I’d really like to be able to ask a few questions (the obvious one being “OK, it presumably isn’t actually balanced on those two points; what does the display stand look like?).

  5. Vnend says:

The link is at the top, where it says ADRIAN FLOREA. It takes you to his Flickr page. The guy is a Lego maniac.

  6. technogeek says:

Thanks. In the new BBG style, that is emphatically Not Obvious.

  7. Switched says:

awesome, but then the railroad wheels just push it over the top. thanks for posting.

  8. Joel Johnson says:

Yes, a giant red link at the top of the page == not obvious. Derp!

  9. Dave! says:

The “giant red link” just looks like a type style. I didn’t realize it was a link either until I moused over it.

Anyway… the lego mech is awesome. Although, to me it looks more like a break dancin’ (skating) robot… just need some speakers and a tape deck on that “crate”. :)

#2 – look up “shunter” on the internet. I recommend a search engine called “Google”. It may be accessed at: http://www.google.com

    All about shunters:

  11. Emily says:

I don’t think it’s especially obvious to have the artist’s name buried in the tags.

But yeah, that is a pretty awesome lego shunter!

    Joel
You did not publish my earlier comment re “where’s the link?” (Posted when there were zero comments.)
    Fine – your call.

Buy I am not alone it seems.
The link is NOT obvious and not consistent. Black and to the right below the pic on the main BBG page. Red and at the top on the item’s own page. In both cases looking just like normal text in each context, not like a link. Emphatically not obvious or intuitive.

But your condescending response to those who call you on your whizzy new design for BBG (“derp”) has at last persuaded me I don’t need to come here any more. Ever stop to think others might just have a valid point? Is your job not to make it as accessible as possible? Maximise hits? Grow the site? (For all those advertisers) Or has it now become, as it seems, to reduce the audience to those who pass the test of joining in your own outlook on things netty and gadgety? One liners that force a click to find out what they are actually about (which NEVER happened before the redesign), links that are impossible to discern, a design that is almost deliberately designed to strain the eyes with its harsh contrast, all add up to more hassle than it is now worth the effort to visit.

Your arrogant, condescending dismissal of a valid criticism and failure to consider that actually it might not be obvious to those not “in” on the secret is the last straw for me.

“Derp” to you too, and goodbye. Bet you don’t publish this one either.

  13. Joel Johnson says:

    Derp!

  14. Rob Beschizza says:

Joel’s more concise response notwithstanding, we’ve listened closely to readers suggestions and made many changes to the new design. And we’re still making them. In this case, the image itself should also link to the source.

The problem with your suggestions is that they are ones of taste, dressed up as usability concerns.

It wouldn’t be a problem, were it not for the fact you have bad taste.

Oh no, our community lost a bitter anonymous commenter. What have you guys done?!?!
