Noah Shachtman:

Google Earth developer Kevin Welch has put together something truly remarkable for this Memorial Day. It’s called “Map the Fallen,” and it “uses Google Earth to honor the more than 5,700 American and Coalition servicemen and women that have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

…Now, to put GE to the real test: producing the same map for WWII dead.

I’d like to see a map honouring the Iraqi and Afghani civilians that have died in these wars.

Oh that’s right, no civilians have been killed. Or maybe they don’t deserve any honour, since they were just civilians.

  3. Hey Spaz, how many millions are safer now? You are an ASS !

Why no honouring the heroic SS who fell in the glorious invasion of Poland?

There is no honour in illegal aggression against a sovereign nation. People were hanged at Nuremburg for this ‘supreme international crime’. Just because America does it, doesn’t mean the war on iraq is not a war crime and worthy of the ignominious global reputation it rightly holds.

I am not sure if google earth can yet support the 1million+ casualties in Iraq resulting from America’s illegal invasion. Moreover, since ‘we don’t do body counts’ and make every attempt to minimize the official numbers of civilian dead due to American action, there is no data able to input for those hundreds of thousands who died unnecessarily.

    Where is the download?

Some strong words from those who wondered where the military was on September 11th. Instead of dwelling on the past, try finding a legitimate path for the future. It’s easy being a “Monday morning quarterback”, isn’t it SPAZZM. Those who died did so for your right to badmouth their sacrifice. Nice.
