What Tech/Slang Should Disney Choose to Represent the '00s?
Disney decided on Pac-Man iconography and the word "Radical" to represent the 1980s wing of their Pop Century Resort in Florida. Obvious, sensible choices.
Any ideas for what they should use for the '00s icon and slang?
I'm going to offer up the iPhone + "Totes."*
*Disney's 80s wing also utilizes the phrase "totally awesome," which helps support the case for "totes." If Disney manages to work online shorthand and/or leet speak into the hotel, I'll be thoroughly impressed.

STFU....though that may be more 90s.
Problem is, we havn't even come up with a good name for the 'oughts, and as culture and grammar skills deteriorate by the minute, I doubt there's a singular phrase that encapsulates the era the way, say "Groovy" does for the 60s. Maybe "Wardrobe Malfunction".

That reminds me, maybe euphemisms are the fad of the 'oughts:

Economic Downturn
Fundamental Extremists

I would say iPod + LOL. But only because it seems unlikely that Disney would do it Goatse themed.

I'd second "LOL."
Sure, it was born in the 90s, but I think it truly found its home this decade.

Before even reading any of the comments I was going to suggest LOL too. The defining characteristic of the '00s has been the proliferation in social media and text messaging.
10 years ago there were no smart phones with QWERTY keyboards. Believe it or not the first smart phone (the PalmOS Kyocera QCP6035) wasn't released until 2000, and the first QWERTY phone I know of was the Handspring Treo 180 in 2001. 2002 saw the introduction of the Sidekick and the first voice Blackberries, as well as the first US camera phone by Sprint. Now it seems that every very popular phone except the RAZR has either a physical or touch screen keyboard.
I've never heard anyone use totes, and I am around a sufficiently diverse range of ages and locales.
Anyway, my vote would actually be a RAZR and LOL since the iPhone was a latecomer to the '00s party (not until 2007). However, given Steve Jobs's ties to Disney, an iPhone would be more likely.

Zan, a Razr is certainly ubiquitous! But the iPod was introduced in 2001 (years before the Razr) and has sold many times more units than the Razr. (~50mm versus ~173mm) So an iPod might be a more universal choice, plus is plays into His Steveness's ties to Disney..

When I read "totes," I wondered what a generic general-purpose handbag, or a maker of luggage and umbrellas, had to do with this decade. This is the first time I've heard that it can be used for "totally."

I always thought it was, like, French, or something. It's English slang for "totally"? That's fuckin' stupid.
