Map: Band of Brothers set, Hatfield, UK

Band of Brothers, the best WW2 series ever made, was shot primarily at the airfield outside of Hatfield, England. The sets are still standing and are visible on Google Maps.

I know where I’m when I’m next in the UK. (Which should be soonish; my pop just moved over there.)

Reminds me of the first English sentences in my first English book:

    Here is Hatfield.
    Hatfield is a town.
    It’s a town near London.

I think I threw this book away long time ago, what a pity. These days I could look up on google maps where Dave King, Kevin Connor and all the other guys lived and where Dave had his accident with the bike and whatnot. Teachers don’t know what they are missing.

Don’t hurry to find it. All you’ll find is a fancy new business park and housing estate. The airfield and film sets are long gone :( I think Google need to update their UK maps some.

  3. Slippy Lane says:

Further to Rob’s comment – it’s true, there’s nothing but student housing and cellphone companies now. I grew up near there and many of my family still live there.

And trust me, there’s nothing else to see in Hatfield. The film sets were the town’s last gasp of life after BAe closed down.
