End of the road for Dell's Mini 9
Dell's phasing out its Mini 9 netbook. Already gone from the website, the machine is selling out fast.
It was a successful product by any number of measures, including the unofficial "modders dream" device with owners adding GPS modules, installing different OS, upgrading memory, etc.
If you want one (it holds OSX well, a fact Dell openly boasts of in its goodbye post) eBayers and Amazon resellers likely represent the best shot at getting one new.

I'm confused. It was useful, it worked well, everyone liked it, and it clearly sold well since it is gone already. So...why did they kill it?
(Yes, this is all about me, because I love mine and it's the perfect size, and the mini 10 is going to be TOO BIG.)

I lOVE my Mini 9.
I've modified it, broken it, fixed it and modified it again.
It runs Windows 7 RC1 very nicely too (thanks to www.mydellmini.com) and is my portable on a daily basis.
I'd go get another, but then I wouldn't get to explore a NEW one in the future.
Also, I'm not as fond of Dell as I used to be.

Also note that while you can theoretically upgrade the RAM on the mini10v (unlike the old mini10) it requires complete disassembly of the netbook and removing the motherboard. If you're not up for that, you're stuck with 1GB RAM. Which sucks.

That's too bad. I quite like mine. The specs were right for the price and I've not had any issues with it and I've had it nearly nine months.

I ordered one at the beginning of March. I never got it.
I couldn't figure out why the sales guy was begging me to cancel my order a couple weeks ago when I called to see what was taking so long. Now I know: As I suspected, they didn't actually exist, and never would.
I actually will never buy anything from Dell again. They did a massive "Back to School" Mini 9 sale over here in Japan (school starts in April) and then couldn't actually build the units because they'd stopped making the motherboards (what I could suss out from working up the support chain).
Wholly ridiculous. It was exactly what I wanted, and I actually paid for it.
I haven't gotten my money back yet, either.

I hate this, I was planning on buying a few more I get a steep discount on Dell's through work. It is an amazing tool. I use mine for photo work because it fits perfectly in my lowepro, a guest blogger on here also does this. :(
I have always had great luck with dell computers. I am growing more annoyed with their tactics as of late though. I'm going to try and start a petition at my company to start buying pcs elsewhere.

Oh man did I see this coming. I shopped around for netbooks and bought this one because I liked it's "vibe" and the SSD, and the keyboard. But I've been DELUGED recently with Dell adverts...none of which feature the Mini 9, but which are pimping the Mini 10 like crazy. The idea is portability! Why would I want a bigger one!?

The Vostro A90 is still available - this is the Mini 9 under another name. Get it while you still can - I have my A90 running OS X, Ubuntu and Win7 very happily on a Runcore SSD.

However, I too think the look of the Dell monitor isn't quite appealing as the Apple offering.
