CrunchPad prototype looks awesome

This is the pic that explains why this thing is going to be hot. From TechCrunch:

[We] have just about nailed down the final design for the device. We’re showing the conceptual drawings here today. In another few weeks we’ll have the first working prototypes in our office. … The screen is now flush with the case and we’ve decreased the overall thickness to about 18 mm.

I’m not up on the crunchpad, what are the specs? Is that traditional LCD display or an e-ink, low power alternative?

  3. Clay says:

Wow, the UI (shown in older video linked at TechCrunch) actually looks pretty decent, too. This is starting to look a lot less niche than I had thought it would be when it was announced.

And despite this being targeted at an entirely different market, if they can put this at a price point below the Kindle, things could get interesting really fast.

Just make sure it can read cbr and cbz files with enough sizing options like CDisplay and I’ll be the first one lined up to get one.

@CLAY, re: “if they can put this at a price point below the Kindle” — so far they have claimed (at least at ideation) that this would be sub-$200. Would be sweet. Definitely a fixture on my couch.

  6. Gronk says:

The design is described as a very light touch-screen computer intended mainly for web use, with minimal OS. So, no, it’s not exactly an e-book reader as you might think from the pictures.

Also, colour e-ink is not quite there yet, so, yes, it’s an LCD display. Not sure about the resolution.

What Dargaud said. I’ll get two.
