Ohm64, the open-source music mixer
![]()
Create Digital Music explains why you want this instead of an Akai APC40: free software, custom Midi assignments, and more buttons and knobs and things to twiddle. It even runs on USB power alone. Not sure about those pads, though.

This is a good idea. I can't believe someone don't do this one sooner. It's smart and well desinged. Cool.

Pete from Livid, the maker of the Ohm64. First-thanks for the mention! Great to see our baby on one of my favorite blogs.
I do want to make a couple things clear, though. It's more of an "Open-Minded" device, rather than strictly open source. The schematics and design are not open source. The firmware is not open source (reluctantly - this is because of licensing issues from Microchip: we used their sample code to get started on the USB communication - we do hope to have an open source version of firmware in the future, though). The Editor program, and many of the upcoming softwares and examples, will have source code available - it's all done in Max/MSP. We will also do our best to support those Microchip enthusiasts who want to tack on their pic2kit and tinker, too!
