So is there anything bad to say about the new MacBook Pro line? No, not really.

Except the price, which is still too high.

Oh, quick, somebody call the waaaahmbulance, Apple charges more than Sworm is willing to pay for a piece of quality hardware.

Whether or not the price is too high is *subjective*. Personally, I'd rather pay for a MacBook and get the better build quality and display, rather than paying half as much for a cheap (and cheaply-made) HP like all of the tools on the "Laptop Hunters" ads.

Hell yes there is something wrong!

The got rid of the express card slot for a crummy SD slot!

Which is great if you're a pro photographer that uses SD not CF cards (which isn't that many) but absolutely rubbish if you are a videographer who uses the express card slot for useful things like RAID host cards, eSATA host cards, P2 cards.. etc.

Apple are pretty much forcing filmmakers to buy the 17".

Yes, great argument. I absolutely concur with you there. After all, the only options you have on the notebook (or PC, for that matter) market are Apple or cheap & cheaply made.

Only those that are dense enough to think Apple is their only option. All the others will simply consider getting a top-line Vaio, XPS or .
Problem is, of course, that the filmmaker community isn't trend-resistant. I'd know, I'm part of it (the community, not the trend).

@ Garr

Being 'dense' has nothing to do with it.
Having a workable system to field edit on is.

If you post pipeline is Final Cut like many large broadcasters (BBC, NatGeo, NASA to name a few), it would make no sense to run a PC in the field.
