vi has no use for the meta key, so I don't see why it would... unless it were for the sheer purpose of bloatifying it, but that's more an emacs trait.

You know, I was just thinking the other day, "gee the G1 looks great, and I love that it does SSH...now what about emacs?"

I wonder how he did that.

It actually looks a lot like connectbot (the ssh application). It might be a debian install though.
