From the Wall Street Journal:
Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave from Apple Inc. since January to treat an undisclosed medical condition, received a liver transplant in Tennessee about two months ago. The chief executive has been recovering well and is expected to return to work on schedule later this month, though he may work part-time initially.
I hope he’s okay, though this does underscore the hassle of not having a user-replaceable liver.

I’ve seen the user replaceable ones over at Eli Lilly. They don’t have the battery life of the ones you need to take in for service and they add quite a bit to the both the weight and aesthetics of the entire unit. Pretty inelegant if you ask me.
With the appropriate biotech training, you MIGHT be able to service your own. Few screw drivers, an assistant past their prime, a healthy dose of tequila and maybe a few other specialize instrument to pry open the unit, but I’m sure it is do able. So you might scratch the case. Hell, if you completely fuck up you might have to clone the unit and retrain the cognitive subsystem, but that is nearly doable. Just stop being a pussy about it.
…Heh, if he did have a bionic liver, it would be really poetically ironic if it had a sticker over the screws that warned him his warranty would be voided if the sticker was damaged in any way, just like how the original Macs were tagged to prevent owners from doing their own repairs and upgrades. It would serve him right!
