Kohjinsha SK3

Kohjinsha SK3 is filofax for the 21st century

The SK3 is a small, well-specced netbook that would be called a UMPC in a past life. What intrigues me about it is how it's made to integrate with this standard-form business planner. It's strange and pointless and wonderful, like something from an old science fiction movie.

Check out the unboxing at UMPC Portal: Kohjinsha SK3. Ultra-Portable and Portfolio-Ready! (Unboxing video).

I am someone who still likes planners. I have an iPhone but I can still write a note or schedule a date much faster with my pen then I can it. If had a stylus I'd be all for it and carry it with me.

Man, mixing it with a pen-and-paper planner is a great idea. I think this is where tech should head, not all flashy and sleek and loading times and keyboards. If I want to quickly jot a note down or check a date, awesome. I can do that without clicking through to Notepad or whatever people use for calendars. If I want to check BB or kill some time with the flash games or work on some writing, I can also do that.

I can see tech like this in the world of Blade Runner, where detectives jot down notes on paper and cross-check them with the computer. I want this.

My recent dis-satisfactgion with a lot of gadget shortcomings has rekindled a love affair with good old fashioned pen & paper - p&p is generally faster, more reliable, and more flexible. I strongly agree with Waffles points. Between my pen and small notepad and my smartphone or laptop that I carry it is the smartphones/computers that I regularly have issues with in terms of performance & their ability to meet my needs.

nothing beats a soft graphite stylus for speed and flexibility.

Everything old is new again.

It's interesting, actually. The history of the personal computer is littered with (mostly failed) pen computing experiments.

Pointless? This is perfect! I always carry around a notepad to scribble in. Laptops, iPhones etc, just don't cut it. To combine them like this looks great..

I guess I could just stick a notepad to a netbook like Jemaine's cameraphone in Flight of the Conchords, but the SK3 is so much more elegant.

I wouldn't say pointless. Even these days people still prefer to have something written down rather than store it on a pc. I think its a tactile thing.
