Nokia to make Android phone (Or not)

From The Guardian:

Nokia is understood to be developing a mobile phone that runs on Google's Android software platform in a strategic U-turn for the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer.

The new touchscreen device will be unveiled at the Nokia World conference in September, say industry insiders, as the Finnish handset giant tries to revive its fortunes in the smartphone market.

Update: Nokia denies it. Maybe it's making an Android Internet Tablet!

Funny they should mention this just after SE unveil a new Android phone.

Is this the point in time that we remember as being the day Google won?

For my personal tastes, Nokia has the best design sense in the business. YMMV, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what they put out.

I love my N810, and would love for there to be a keyboard-bearing followup with improved specs and a screen at least as large.

Practically speaking, if the rumored N900 (Rover or whatever) hits, someone will probably just port Android over (officially or not). Wouldn't that pretty much be the best of both worlds and the obvious approach for a company that already has open source platform plans of their own?
