Now you too can have a small impractical saw in your pen.

Firebox sells this marvelous, TSA-unfriendly pen. It has 13 different attachments and, given the screwing involved, is probably much less practical than it sounds.

Hey, more screwing might be impractical, but it sure is enjoyable.

Oh look, it isn't available in the US from Firebox. How unusual. :-\

I have one of these. My father bought it for me as a christmas present. Yes the screwing and un-screwing is a little annoying but it has actually come in handy once in a while. Mine's blue!

How often have I been at my desk or in a meeting and thought, I wish there was a small impractical saw in this pen?

Seems like the sort of item I would use once or twice and then forget in my bag until I go to get on a plane and suddenly I am getting a cavity search.

The beauty of Gerber is that they are a good knife and a good pliers. Everything else is a gimmick. Does this look like a pen? not really. A good utility knife? Maybe. That nail file does look super though.

I have one of these. It was a Christmas gift from a former boss. There is a lot of screwing and unscrewing involved, which is not helped by the fact that I always forget which segment holds which tools--it's like a shell game, which part do I have to unscrew to get the tiny flat-head? Also, the mechanism that holds the blades in place when you're using them never feels very secure, so I'm always nervous the blade is going to pop out and into my eye if I use one for anything but the lightest tasks. And the tweezers are basically useless. Apart from that the build is very sturdy.

That said, I find myself using it a lot because for whatever reason I can always find it, whereas I often don't know where my tiny screwdrivers or my X-Acto knife got off to.

I have never, ever, used the pen part for actual writing, though.

I have one of these and it's actually a sweet little product. When it is all screwed together it looks just like a regular pen. All of the blades and such are inside.
* Hole Punch
* Short Cutting Blade
* Long Cutting Blade
* Phillips Head Screwdriver
* Stainless Steel File
* Flat Head Screwdriver
* Scraper
* Tweezers
* Stainless Steel Fork
* Writing Pen
* Saw
* Wire Stripper, Small Nail / Staple Remover

The fork turns around and doubles as a pocket clip. The blades are easy to pull out and they lock into one of the collars.

You can get one at a US source - http://www.duluthtrading.com for about $25. They also give it away periodically with a big purchase.

In Germany/Europe it's available via pearl.de - cheaper, too, 9.90EUR.

And actually it IS better than it looks, but it won't replace your Leatherman anytime soon.

I have one, too. Also blue. Yep, not the most convenient thing, you have to be sure you don't dump the stored blades when you open it. I keep it in my computer bag. It's come in handy on several occasions.

I think it got it for a few bucks from the good folks at American Science and Surplus, but it looks like they no longer have them.

I've owned one, in blue, for years.

Incredibly useful.
