1)You don't have to use itunes. There are similar programmes which also support other file formats (flac, ogg...)
2)You don't have to buy an iphone. There are equally good / better phones out there.

this is by far one of the worst "arguments" against apple. i'm not saying there isn't anything to criticize but at least make reasonable rational ones. oh, please stop using steve jobs as the cartoon villain. there are plenty of other people at apple you can cast blame on.
1) Most mp3 players don't follow a sense of minimalism. The dock-connector, and analog modules, are enough to have all of those features, save TV tuner. The sense of minimalism does one very important thing, max out battery life for listening to music.
2) I agree with this whole heartedly, and hope the iPhone will find its way over to other 4g carriers when the time comes. But you know, you could always unlock your iPhone.
Umm, Apple still makes Macs. I think they're a bigger revenue source than iPods now. And nothing in the article seems to apply to them. Does MS actually have anything to do with phones? How does not liking Apple phones make you want to run Windows? Or rather, liking Apple phones so much that you hate that they're available on AT&T.
Yeah, he went after Steve Jobs too much in the beginning. Also, who cares about other mp3 players using iTunes? iTunes is a steaming pile of hot garbage anyway, you shouldn't use it even if you have an iPod.
The best reason I've ever seen to loathe Apple is that they censor the dictionary on the iPhone, you can't get more evil overlord than that.
Both Calcanis's arguments, and Cult of Mac's responses, could benefit from some careful thought. However, I am not going to be spending my human rebirth on this issue.
Except to explain one overwhelmingly important point: Phone companies suck -- even more than music/movie companies.
(Perhaps insurance companies are worse, but I have no experience working with them. There but for the Grace of God, go I.)
TMobile lobotomized the Danger Sidekick/HipTop. It was specified to have its own app store on Day 1. Instead, TMobile prevented Danger from adding features to the OS, preferring to force users to purchase a new phone (and therefore another two year service agreement.)
The only reason that phones have such an economy now is because Apple, and Steve Jobs, rammed it down ATT's throat. And to get that, Apple had to agree to keep the iPhone exclusive to ATT.
I am sure that Calcanis is smarter than Steve Jobs, and would have negotiated a better agreement. After all, he says so in his blog, and why would he lie?
...And I'm sure that Calcanis would have forced the iProducts to support all those open source audio and video formats, even if free-to-license closed formats are dramatically more efficient, requiring less bandwidth and processor power. Customers would be glad to pay extra for a bigger, heavier phone, because Open Source is THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
...And I'm also completely convinced that Apple's decision not to spend resources supporting all MP3 players has actually cost it money in the long run. That's what Calcanis is implying, isn't it?

4) Unlock all iPhones you come across.
5) Why haven't you unlocked your iPhone yet?
