Rumored Canon G11, angry at own mediocrity, flips out

Canon's rumored G11 looks an unexciting nudge on from the G10: the alleged specs detail a flip-out display, but no HD video and a middling 1/1.7″ CCD sensor. [Canon Rumors]

Well, largely because it's a still camer, not an HD device. The G11 isn't aimed at the same crowd that wants the more compact do-all P&S cameras, or the high-end DSLR users.
I think the G11 is solid in it's image improvement. They've DROPPED the MP count to 10 from 14.7, on an "high-sensitivity" sensor, double image stabalization, and DIGIC 4. This should mean better low-light performance and less noise. They realized that people using the G10 weren't using it to make billboards, but they WERE using it at birthday parties.
This may finally be the camera that turns around the MP idiocy and focuses on image quality instead of size.

Good to see the G series bringing back the flip-out screen. Still have a G3 with that, and this feature alone means it still gets used sometimes. Couldn't believe they left it out of later models.

It's a welcome change of direction.
Unfortunately, it still has the mediocre f/2.8 lens (and not the f/2.0 of the G1-G6). And while the G series floundered, Panasonic (of all people) stole a march on it. I can't see myself trading in my Lumix DMC-LX3 for a PowerShot G* unless Canon make some spectacular improvements (a faster lens would be a start, though more physical controls (a joystick, focus mode/aspect ratio switches, pull-down menus for frequently-used settings) would also be necessary to compare.
Sorry Canon, while you were away, Panasonic came along and ate your lunch.
