Seeing this brings back memories of high school. I used to take piano and voice lessons at a community music school, and the classrooms had these same metronomes on top of the pianos, which were older and beautifully crafted instruments from an earlier, more elegant time...

This is completely a high school memory.
In the practice rooms of our h.s. band room, where these metronomes sitting on a crusty, upright piano.
I the diamond shape on the top of the casing does not light up, adjust volume...or do anything.
It adorns a weird, white diamond.
